Grant Balfour eases into his 6th Save. Hughes sidelined

Eric Sogard was a late addition to the lineup replacing the sick Luke Hughes at third base.

But he wasn’t late on a Jake Arrieta pitch in the second inning, hitting a two-run homer that propelled Brandon McCarthy, who allowed two runs over seven innings, to his first win of the season.

Grant Balfour began the 9th walking the 1st hitter but then struck out the next 2 and a groundout finished the game and gave Grant his 6th Save for the season and the A’s a 5-2 victory.

Luke Hughes who was struck with a bout of the flu expects to be back at 3rd tomorrow.
