Tim Stanford, 22, was signed by the Rangers prior to the 2008 campaign by Sydney based scout Barry Holland. He posted a career-best season at Spokane in 2010, where he had a 1.66 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 11 walks in 54.1 innings.
Tim battled injuries last season and struggled at the two short-season levels, giving up 11 runs in 15 innings. The righty allowed two runs in 1.1 innings in his lone spring appearance, struggling to locate an 82-84 mph fastball and low-70s curveball and changeup.
David Kandilas is experiencing his best Spring so far in his career with the Rockies. He has played in 7 games and had multi hits in every game. That will make them take some notice.
Today for example he went 2-3 against the D’Backs including a home run.
Whilst it is too early to predict where he is likely to play this year David is hoping it will be Asheville Low A as the most likely place for him.
He spent last season in Advanced Rookie where he did well and so a promotion would seem in order.
With the season winding to a close, the Spokane Indians returned home from a long road trip seeking to find the offensive potency that powered their team in the first half of the season. Instead, Spokane ran into Everett starting pitcher Stephen Landazuri (5-4), who continued his dominance over the Indians in the Aquasox 9-4 win over Spokane. Tim Stanford in his 4th and best start since coming off the DL threw 3 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, 0 walks whilst striking out 4.
The South Bend Silver Hawks struck out a season high 18 times in falling to the Fort Wayne TinCaps 7-1. The loss also drops the Silver Hawks to seven games out of the wild card spot with only 11 games remaining in the Midwest League season.
Kable Hogben was solid in relief for the Hawks throwing 1.2INN, 1H, 1R, 2BB, 4K leaving him with a a 2.45ERA.
Tim Stanford struggled a little in his outing today for the Spokane Indians allowing 2 runs on 4 hits in his 1.2 innings. He gave up 1 walk and had 1K. It would seem that he is still recovering from his enforced time on the DL with a broken hand.
After a 5 game rehab stint with the AZL Rangers Tim Stanford was moved up to the Short Season A team, the Spokane Indians. He has thrown in 2 games for the Indians this week – in his first outing there he threw 2INN, 3H, 1R, 1BB, 2K. In his 2nd game he was plugged for a home run and finished with 2.2INN, 3H, 2R, 1HR, 2BB, 1K for a combined ERA of 5.79.
In the game which the Indians won 9-8 over the D’Backs Mitchell Nilsson was 1-4 with 1 run and a season AVG of .325. Both Aussie Indians are doing well.
Tim Stanford on rehab assignment with the AZL Rangers had another scoreless inning today when he came on in the 8th and allowed no hits nor runs, gave up 1 walk and struck out 1 showing that he is quickly getting his rhythm and control back after his extended rehab with that broken hand. Guy Edmonds was his catcher and was 1-4 with 2RBIs bringing his total RBIs for the season to a handy 21. He is hitting .318. The Rangers defeated the Mariners 6-1.
Guy Edmonds hit a game winning 2RBI single in the 9th to propel the AZL Rangers to a 4-2 win over the D’Backs in Arizona League play today. Fellow Aussie Tim Stanford then threw a scoreless inning in the 9th to record his 1st Save of the season.
Corey Adamson went 2-5 including a double and scored a run in the AZL Padres 10-7 win over the AZL Rangers today whilst in the other dug out Tim Stanford showed that he is still recovering from a couple of months on the DL and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks but he would have been encouraged by the 3 strike outs he got in 1.2 innings.
Mitchell Nilsson is on a roll – yesterday we reported that he hit a double and a home run for the AZL Indians and today he hit another double, collected 2 walks and went 1-2. He seems to be getting into now that he is being given the opportunity.
In the 1st game [the rainout] Tim Stanford threw another inning in his rehab assignment. He gave up a triple and a subsequent run but got out of the inning with no further score.
His line was 1INN, 1H, 1R, 0BB, 1K. We expect him to have a couple of more outings in rookie ball before being sent up for the remainder of the season. His catcher and fellow Sydney team mate Guy Edmonds was 2-4 with 1RBI in the game bringing his average up to .317 for the season.
In the 2nd game Andrew Campbell went hitless thus bringing his streak to a close at a very respectable 9 games.
Aaron Sookee threw a scoreless inning for the AZL Angels in their 4-5 loss to the A’s. He got the hitters out in order and was 1INN, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K so lowering his ERA to 3.00. In 7 games he has thrown 12 innings, 10 of them being scoreless.
Tim Stanford had his first official outing for the season today after being sidelined for the past couple of months with a broken hand as a result of an off-field incident. [He had an accident on his way home from spring training].
He entered the game in the 6th and allowed 1R on 1H, 1BB, getting 1 ground out and 2 fly outs in his 1 inning of work. He is not expected to stay in the rookie team any longer than is necessary.
Now that Extended Spring has finished and the Amateur Draft has been completed clubs will allocate players to either Rookie or Short Season A teams. As we find out what teams players are being sent to we will let you know. Games will generally commence in those leagues next week.
Over at the Mets Adam O’Neill has been sidelined for two weeks with a strained UCL. He was given the all clear by the team doctor yesterday and commenced throwing again today. We had predicted that he would go to the Kingsport Mets in the Appalachian
League [Advanced Rookie] but that decision will now be on hold until he has completed his rehab. He has had 2 seasons with the GCL Mets. His ERA improved from 6.38 in 2009 t0 3.52 in 2010.
Talking of rehabbing – Tim Stanford with Texas is in rehab after breaking his hand last month. He had the pins removed this week and is not expected to be ready until late next month. Tim had an outstanding year last year with the Spokane Indians in Short Season A Northwest League where he finished W, 6-0 with a 1.66ERA.
