In a somewhat surprising move the Twins have released Sydney’s Mark Trau. He was signed by the Twins in 2009 following his performances with the NSW U18s and his attendance at the MLB Academy on the Gold Coast.
We say surprising because he was given only very limited opportunities in the 2 seasons he had with Minnesota. Both seasons were in Rookie Ball for a career W0-2 record and a 2.89ERA,
This past season he threw in only 16.2 innings finishing with 1.08ERA.
The GCL Twins had a decisive 7-1 win over the Red Sox with the Aussies playing a significant role in the result.
Lots of double headers in the Gulf Coast League today as they make up lost games due to the recent inclement weather across Florida.
In the 7 inning game Mark came on in the 5th with 2 out and 1 on after the Orioles had blown the game apart scoring 5 runs. Mark immediately settled things inducing a fly ball to CF to close out the inning. He returned for the 6th, walked 2 and then once again settled down to retire the side with no runs scoring.
Mark has not given up a run in his last 8 outings, that’s 12.2 scoreless innings. He does however put himself under added pressure by giving up 8 walks in those outings. That is an improvement though on his earlier performances when he walked 6 in his first 3 games. His 1.15 ERA is impressive.
The GCL Pirates split the results with the Braves. In game 1 they won 2-1 with Dylan Child going 0-2 and in game 2 which they lost 1-5 Wilson Lee threw 1.1 scoreless innings extending to 4 his run of scoreless outings.

The Blue Jays outhit the GCL Pirates 19/7 in a one sided affair today with the final score, 13-5, reflecting that offensive dominance. Jackson Lodge and Wilson Lee were both involved for the Pirates. Coming on to close out the game in the 7th he threw 1.1 scoreless innings for 2H, 0R, 1BB, 2K whilst Jackson gave up 4 runs on 4 hits, a walk and struck out 2 in his 1.1 innings of work. Catcher Dylan Child went 1-4, scoring 1 run.
Tim Atherton returned to the mound in style today for the GCL Twins following an extended rest to overcome a minor injury. Clearly the rest has done him good – he struck out all three hitters he faced. Welcome back Tim.
Despite the Aussie effort the Twins went down 2-6 to the Rays. Talking of the Rays – if you are wondering what has happened to Darryl George – he’s had a minor injury and is being rested at present. Its nothing serious we are told.
