Rich Thompson picked up his 4th win whilst an unlucky Ryan Rowland-Smith took his 5th loss today. Meanwhile Luke Hughes is on a 6 game hitting streak.
RRS threw 5 innings as starter for the Iowa Cubs in their 2-1 loss to the Oklahoma City RedHawks. He gave up 2 runs in the 2nd on a bases loaded double but threw the other 4 innings without allowing a run. His line was 5INN, 3H, 2R, 3BB, 4K for the loss. His record is now W3-5.
Rich Thompson only had to throw 1 inning in relief to collect his 4th win for the River Cats. He came on in the 6th with the game tied 1 all and allowed 2 runs. However, the River Cats bounced back with 5 runs in the bottom 6th to finish 6-3 and the win for Rich. He is now W4-2 with a 3.51ERA.
Luke Hughes went 3-5, including a double, scoring a run and an RBI against Tacoma. He is on a 6 game hitting streak and is hitting a very healthy .348 for Las Vegas.
Matt Kennelly went 1-3 today, scoring 1 run for the Mississippi Braves and extended his hitting streak to 9. He is hitting .452 in his last 10 games.
Andrew Russell extended his run of scoreless outings to 10 when he pitched 1.2 innings for 2H, 0R, 1K today. His ERA in AAA is 1.53.
Dare we begin to wonder if he could be a September call up?
Luke Hughes, who had his own hitting streak of 10 games until this week, went within a home run from hitting the cycle today when he went 3-6 for Las Vegas where he is hitting .320.
Trent Oeltjen, who had been put on the DL after experiencing recent dizziness, had a rehab outing today with the Dodgers Rookie team. He went 2-5 with 1 run and an RBI.
Perth players Corey Adamson, Allan de San Miguel and Matt Kennelly played well at their respective levels yesterday.
Corey, who is in Short Season A had a very productive day going 4-5, scoring a run and pounding out 2 doubles in the process. Over the last 10 games he is hitting .364.
At High A, Allan is on a 5 game hitting streak for the Frederick Keys. Yesterday he was 2-4, scored a run, doubled and was credited with 1RBI in the Keys’ 5-2 win over Carolina. In fact Allan has hit in 9 of his last 10 games and is .295 for the season with Frederick.
At AA, Matt is also on a streak having hit safely in his last 7 games for the Mississippi Braves. Yesterday in the Braves 4-2 win over Jackson Matt went 2-3, scoring a run and in the process hitting an RBI double. For his last 10 games he is hitting a phenomenal .517.
As we mentioned earlier Luke Hughes failed to get a hit yesterday in AAA so bringing his streak to a close after 10 games. Luke did tweet his thanks to the large contingent of Australians who came out to his game in Las Vegas and said he was sorry that he didn’t put on a better performance for them.
Two Aussie pitchers were called on to pitch the final inning in AAA action today.
Clayton Tanner did the most work, facing 4, giving up 1 walk whilst striking out 2 in his scoreless 8th in Fresno’s 4-3 loss to Oklahoma City.
Andrew Russell needed just 5 pitches (4 strikes) to get the final strike out and collect his 1st AAA Save in the 9th in Gwinnett Braves’ 3-1 win over Norfolk.
Luke Hughes finally failed to get a hit for Las Vegas in his 11th game with them. He went 0-4 in the 51s 7-0 loss to Omaha. Luke is hitting .325 for his new club.
After 2 previous solid starts things went poorly today for Ryan Rowland-Smith in his start against Luke Hughes‘ Las Vegas 51s. Although Luke was unable to get a hit off Ryan he did get to Iowa’s reliever to punch out an RBI single in the 6th extending his hitting streak to 10 games. He has hit safely in every game he has played for the 51s.
Ryan struggled today giving up 5 runs on 4 hits and a surprisingly high 5 walks in the 4 inning outing.
He took the loss with the final score 14-7 to Las Vegas.
Luke Hughes continues to show the Blue Jays that their faith in him was not displaced when they picked him up after he had been surprisingly released by the A’s.
Not only did he hit his 2nd home run for Las Vegas today but in doing so he has maintained his record of hitting safely in every game he has played for the 51s – that’s a streak of 9 games.
Today’s bomb came in the 1st inning with 1 on and propelled his team to a 3-2 win over the Iowa Cubs.
Luke is hitting .364.
When Luke Hughes went 1-4 today for Las Vegas he had hit safely in all 7 games with the 51s since signing with the Blue Jays organisation.
Today he scored 1 run and 1RBI and is hitting .308 for Las Vegas. Seems like the change of clubs has this time been to Luke’s advantage.
He had hit .179 in the Texas League and .235 for the A’s organisation so this move is pleasing to see and hopefully is just the stimulation needed to get Luke back on track.
In a pleasing return to form after Saturday’s futile effort Tucson’s Josh Spence threw 2 good innings in relief in the 6th/7th to get the win in a 14-11 victory over Albuquerque. Trent Oeltjen didn’t play yesterday.
His line was 2INN, 1H, 1R, 0ER, 3BB, 1K.
Josh is W3-2, 5.93ERA.
Luke Hughes hit 1-4 yesterday scoring 1 run for Las Vegas. Since signing with the Blue Jay’s AAA team he has hit safely in every game and is hitting .333.
The Fresno Grizzlies had a 10th inning walk off victory defeating Memphis 2-1. Clayton Tanner made a quality contribution throwing 3 innings giving up 1 unearned run on 2 hits, holding down the 5th, 6th and 7th innings.
Rich Thompson is on fire. He has now pitched 6 straight games without conceding a run and has an ERA of 0.63 over his last 10 games. Facing the minimum 3 hitters yesterday he completed the 10th and was given the win when his River Cats then scored a walk off 3-2 win over Memphis. Rich is W3-2.
In only his 2nd game with his new club Luke Hughes smashed his 1st home run in the 2nd inning for the Las Vegas 51s who went down 6-4 to Trent Oeltjen’s Isotopes.
Trent went 1-5 with an RBI whilst Luke finished the day 1-2, 2 runs and an RBI.
Luke is hitting .239 – Trent .317.
Joshua Hendricks went 1-4 today hitting a double taking his AVG to .279 overall and .305 in his last 10. Josh has now hit in his last 6 games.
Logan Wade, GCL Twins, went 1-3 yesterday taking his AVG to .236 overall.
Allan de San Miguel had a good day with the bat going 3-4, hitting a double and a home run, scoring 2 runs and collecting 2RBI. He is hitting .258.
