Lee contributes to GCL Pirates’ Championship win: Child, Lodge, Bishop
Wilson Lee, Jackson Lodge and Dylan Child will be proudly wearing Gulf Coast League Championship rings around Adelaide after the GCL Pirates defeated the Red Sox today.
Wilson came on in the 5th and breezed through his 1st inning but did concede 2 runs to the Red Sox in the 6th. It made no difference to the final score with the Pirates prevailing 5-2 and taking out the Championship. New Zealander Beau Bishop did the catching for the Red Sox but went 0-3 at the plate.
Wilson finished the season with a 3.28ERA over 15 games and 24.2 innings. His record was W4-1. (these stats don’t include post season play).
Jackson finished 3.08 over 14 games and 38 innings with a W1-2 record.
Dylan, who saw little game time towards the end of the season, playing only 2 games in August, finished .152 over 33AB in 15 games.
Beau had 53 ABs in 16 games for a .189 season. He did finish more strongly hitting .240 in August after a lean .059 in July.
Jackson Lodge gets win in play off game for Pirates; de San Miguel homers
The Pirates’ Gulf Coast League affiliate almost didn’t make the postseason, despite boasting one of the circuit’s best teams. On Sunday, it earned a spot in the Championship Series.
Colten Brewer yielded one hit while striking out four over four innings with Jackson Lodge and the bull pen throwing scoreless innings as the Pirates blanked the Cardinals, 1-0, in their one-game semifinal. Jackson was awarded the win when the Pirates scored their only run in the 5th.
Now the Pirates will face the South Division champion Red Sox (Beau Bishop) in Finals. The best-of-3 Championship Series was slated to begin Monday but was pushed back one day due to Tropical Storm Isaac.
Allan de San Miguel hit a 3RBI home run and went 2-4, scoring 2 runs, in the Frederick’s 10-7 win over Potomac.
Child, Lee, Lodge in GCL Pirates’ loss to Yankees
Jackson Lodge threw a scoreless 6th in a 2 all tied game but unfortunately for Wilson Lee, who came on in the 8th, he gave up a game winning home run giving the Yankees a 3-2 win.
It was Wilson’s first loss – his record is now W4-1.
Jackson’s effort reduced his ERA to 2.70 for his last 10 outings.
Dylan Child, who has not seen a lot of playing time – he has only had 15 games, played 1B and catcher and went 0-3.
Jackson Lodge is doing fine
The Pirate’s Jackson Lodge threw 2.1 scoreless innings yesterday and struck out 4 in their 7-3 win over the Tigers in GCL action.
He came on in the 7th with 2 out and 1 on and immediately put down the threat and finished the inning.
The 8th was dominating for the young Adelaide lefty with 3 consecutive strike outs before another clean inning in the 9th which earned him his 2nd Save.
It’s been a good season for Jackson. He has shown encouraging improvement on his somewhat ordinary year in 2011 when he finished with a 6.75ERA over 29.1 innings. This year he has halved his ERA to 3.16 over an increased workload of 37 innings.
He is doing fine.
de San Miguel on a roll; Kandilas; Lodge
Allan de San Miguel went 1-4 with a double and scored a run and had 2RBI in Frederick Keys’ 9-5 loss to Carolina. Allan has hit safely in 8 of his last 10 games and is hitting .324 in that time.
David Kandilas has hit safely in his last 4 games going 1-4 with a run yesterday. He is hitting .278 for his last 10.
Jackson Lodge threw 4 innings for the GCL Pirates against the Yankees. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, 0BB, 1K. He has a 3.38ERA for his season.
Beard & Lodge toss scoreless innings.Younis on DL
One is in AA, the other in Rookie Ball. But both threw scoreless innings today.
Hayden Beard threw 1.2 scoreless innings for the AA San Antonio Missions in their 2-1 loss to Springfield. He allowed only 1BB in his outing.
The Pirate’s Jackson Lodge also threw 1.2 scoreless innings for the GCL Pirates. It was Jackson’s 2nd scoreless outing this month. He gave up 2H whilst striking out 2 and has lowered his ERA to 3.23.
Jacob Younis has a type 2 slap tear in his left labrum (shoulder) and will be out action for a couple of weeks. Fortunately surgery is not required.
Rookie Leagues – Lee & Lodge shine, Naylor on rehab assignment.
Wilson Lee and Jackson Lodge are both from Australia, both from Adelaide, both from the Woodville Club and both played a role in the Pirates’ win over the Blue Jays yesterday.
Wilson threw 1.1 INN, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K when he finished the 3rd, pitched the 4th and was credited with the win taking his record to 3-0. Jackson then threw the 6th and 7th scoreless innings to get his 1st Hold. Pretty good Aussie team effort.
Drew Naylor, on rehab, threw 2 innings yesterday, giving up 2 hits whilst striking out 4.
A routine infield play that was error’d extended the inning, allowing 2runs to score but Drew would have been comfortable with the outing. Liam Bedford went 0-1 off the bench.
Oeltjen extends hitting streak, Kandilas goes long, Lodge’s good outing
Trent Oeltjen went 1-5 for the Isotopes with a double and extended his hitting streak to 6 games. Trent is hitting .345 over his last 10 games and is .301 for the season.
David Kandilas went 3-5 for the Asheville Tourists in their decisive 16-3 win over Greenville in A ball. He hit a double and a home run as well as 2RBI. On the Greenville team Justin Erasmus had a forgettable outing giving up 7 runs on 7 hits in his inning of relief.
Further down in Rookie Ball the Pirate’s Jackson Lodge had a pretty successful outing on the mound throwing 4 innings for 1 run on 2 hits, 0 walks and 2Ks. In 3 of his 4 innings he faced the minimum 3 hitters. His ERA is 3.00.
Rookie Leagues – Darryl George, Josh Hendricks, Jackson Lodge, Rory Rhodes
Darryl George drove in another run today for the Princeton Rays in their 6-5 win over Bluefield. Darryl went 1-4 and leads the team with 17RBI.
In his 2nd start for the season Jackson Lodge produced a solid 4 innings for the Pirates in their 3-2 loss to the Phillies. He gave up a single run in each of his 1st 2 innings then produced 2 scoreless innings to finish with 4INN, 7H, 2R, 0BB, 1K. He has a 3.15ERA
The Elizabethton Twins lost to Johnson City 6-4 with Rory Rhodes having consecutive multi hit games going 2-5 whilst Joshua Hendriks went 1-4 with 1 run and 1RBI. Rory is hitting .309 and Josh .250.
Rookie Leagues – James Brooks, Sam Gibbons, Josh Kennelly, Jackson Lodge
Washington’s James Brooks had his best pro outing yesterday in his 9th game in the GCL. He went 3-5, scoring 1 run and an RBI. He has hit safely in 7 of 9 games. We think that’s a good start to his career.
Perhaps inspired by the signing of his younger brother, Josh Kennelly broke his hitting drought in style, going 2-3 including his 1st home run, scoring 2 runs and an RBI. Nothing like a little sibling rivalry to bring out the best.
Sam Gibbons gave up his 1st runs yesterday. Starting against the Orioles he threw 3 innings, giving up 3 runs (2ER) on 7 hits including a home run whilst collecting 3Ks. His ERA is 1.38.
Jackson Lodge produced a workmanlike outing against the Blue Jays. In 4 innings he allowed 1 home run on 3 hits and 2Ks leaving him with a 2.81ERA.
