We did tell you that Cory Adamson’s (above) slow start was nothing to worry about, that he would soon start to make an impression at the plate. Well yesterday he went 1-4, scored a run and an RBI. Today he went even better going 2-4, including a double and scored twice, and so getting a hit in his last 4 games, too soon to call it a streak but heading in the right direction. So after 8 games he’s hitting .300.

Tim Atherton had his 2nd outing for Cedar Rapids today coming on in the 5th with the Rapids in the lead 7-0. Errors in the field behind him made it tough on Tim who finished his one inning giving up 4 hits and 4 runs, but none of them earned whilst Cedar Rapids held off Clinton to win 7-6.

David Kandilas was 0-3 yesterday but hit 1-3 today and scored Modesto’s only run in their 6-1 loss to Lancaster. He is currently hitting .317.

Boss Moanaroa has certainly gone off the boil this week. He went 0-4 both yesterday and today and has now gone hitless in his last 5 games lowering his average to .200.

Corey Adamson (left) appears to have got it altogether in the batters box at last going 3-4 today, making it 5-8 in his last two games. In Ft Wayne’s 9-1 win over Lake County Corey went 3-4, scoring a run and collecting 2RBI raising his average to .273.

Hopefully this year he will hit well enough to stay with the Tin Caps for the whole season. Last year he started with the Tin Caps but struggled at the plate hitting .111 (9-81) in 29 games before being sent back down to extended spring training and did not make it back to Fort Wayne. He played in 66 games with Short-Season A Eugene, hitting .240 with 1HR and 24RBI. He had a .327 on-base percentage and 15 stolen bases.

David Kandilas had a productive day for Modesto as they defeated Lancaster 4-1. He went 2-4 and scored a run. He is hitting .343.

Boss Moanaroa proves that things can change suddenly in this game. After getting a hit in each of his first 6 games he has now gone hitless in his last 3. After going 0-3 in both games of a double header today he is hitting .276.

Boss is off to a good start

Boss Moanaroa and David Kandilas are having an impressive start to their respective seasons.

David was only 1-4 today in Modesto’s 3-2 win over the delightfully named Rancho Cucamonga. We say only because he has been making a habit of multi hit games this first week. He also had an RBI and is hitting .435 at present.

Boss is travelling well over at Greenville, going 2-4 with a double, scoring a run and collecting his first RBI in his Team’s 5-4 loss to Hickory. He is hitting .375.

Corey Adamson is struggling a little at Ft Wayne going 0-4 today. He is 1-14 so far but based on the way he hit in the ABL he will soon change all that. It’s only a matter of time.

Tim Atherton (26) threw a scoreless 9th in his season debut

Corey Adamson went 1-2 with a double for the Tincaps in their 8-3 loss to Great Lakes. Corey also collected 3 walks.

Tim Atherton had a memorable start to his season when he threw a scoreless 9th, walking one but striking out three. Tim and the two previous Cedar Rapid pitchers combined to no hit Beloit with the final score being 9-1.

David Kandilas is enjoying his first week of the season going 3-5 today in Modesto’s 5-2 win over the Inland Empire. He hit a triple, had 1RBI and scored 2 runs. After 4 games he has a team leading .474 batting average.

Cameron Lamb is already showing why the Astros grabbed him under the Rule V draft during the off season. In his 2nd outing he picked up the Win when he came on in the 12th with 2 out and 2 on. He quickly finished the inning and threw a scoreless 13th not allowing a hit in his 1.1 innings.

Boss Moanaroa was 1-3 with a double for Greenville in their 5-0 loss to Charleston.

Cameron Lamb had his first outing with his new club (remember he was claimed in the Rule V draft going from the Giants to the Astros). He got the Save today coming on in the 11th inning facing 4 hitters, allowing one hit but no runs.

Boss Moanaroa was 1-3 for the Greenville Drive, collecting a walk and scoring a run in the Drive’s 8-4 win over Charleston.

Spring Training – Aussies in action – George, Kandilas, Kennelly, Moylan (dropped), Welch

Peter Moylan is the latest to be sent back to the minors

Peter Moylan is the latest to be sent back to the minors

It’s not been a good week for Aussie potential major leaguers with Travis Blackley and Josh Spence being sent down. Now comes news that the Dodgers have dropped Peter Moylan to the minor leagues. That leaves only Grant Balfour and possibly Liam Hendriks as our representatives in The Show. Disappointing.

A number of minor leaguers got some playing time in the final games of Spring Training today. David Kandilas got a good run with the Rockies going 0-1 and a walk and a run. Both Matt Kennelly and Stefan Welch went 0-2 and rookie Darryl George didn’t get to bat but got to play at third late in the Rays’ game today. This no doubt softened the disappointment he felt when he was unable to crack a place in a full season team and has to return next week to extended spring.

David Kandilas had his 1st at bat this spring for the Rockies today. He didn’t get a hit but he’s obviously been impressing his club to be even given the opportunity.

After the game David tweeted:- @DavidKandilas: Such an amazing experience playing in the big league game today. #Grateful #SpringTraining13. Well done David.

Also making his debut today was the Pirate’s Stefan Welch (See the story below).

Peter Moylan had a good day for the Dodgers today against the Reds. Coming on in the 8th with 1 out Peter faced 3 and struck out 2 to finish the inning and earn himself a Hold.
