Cook fails again – What does Balfour have to do?
Ok! We admit to an Aussie bias. But really, what does Grant Balfour have to do to get back the closer role that he prematurely lost?
Ryan Cook blew his 7th Save today and unlike yesterday the A’s weren’t able to recover the game and went down 3-1 to the Blue Jays in the 11th.
Grant has made no secret of the fact that he felt agrieved when relieved of the closer job and still aspires to return to that role. Cook is a talented young player, but seriously, 7 blown saves is not good for the team and certainly not good for a developing young player. Right now his confidence must be lower than the bottom of San Francisco Bay.
Grant has not allowed a run since June 29th. He threw in 10 games in July for a total of 9.1 scoreless innings and has been dominant in his 3 games in August.
Time for a change we think.
