Trent Oeltjen came up a triple shy of the cycle
The Albuquerque Isotopes overcame a shaky first inning, cruised for a while and then had to hang on for dear life in a 12-10 victory over the Round Rock Express on Sunday night.
Trent Oeltjen, who is hot at the moment, made a contribution with one of his best nights going 3-5 including a double and a home run. All he lacked was the triple. As we said previously, Trent has positioned himself for a call up should there be a sudden need in LA.
Albuquerque (52-39) finished the first half of the season winning five of six, staying within a half game of Oklahoma City (52-38) in the race for the American Southern Division title.
“With all the (player) movement we’ve had, 52 wins, half a game out of first place, we’re playing competitive games, everybody’s having competitive at bats, (throwing) competitive pitches,” manager Lorenzo Bundy said. “That’s what you want to be playing for in August. You want every game to mean something. That’s where we are right now.”
