A’s keep 3 Aussies – for now
The A’s have some interest in veteran Brandon Inge, who was given his unconditional release by the Tigers on Thursday.
As Susan Slusser says “He can still field capably enough at third base, though and he’s a smart player who knows the league, which certainly would count for something. If the A’s decide that defense is the real emphasis there, Inge wouldn’t be a bad way to go”.
Rich Thompson cleared waivers and will go to Triple-A Sacramento, so the A’s do keep their potential for a triple Aussie threat at some point.
That’s if Luke Hughes sticks, too.
That third-base spot is pretty fluid.
* Luke was scratched from today’s game against the Orioles as he is still recovering from a bout of the flu bug. He hopes to be ready for tomorrow’s game.
